From Oracle history to a controlled Odoo rollout

Phased rollout · HR live

A multi-company engineering group needed a new operational ERP without losing access to its Oracle history. We separated the historical archive from new business transactions, rebuilt the group structure and brought HR live as the first department.

The challenge

This was a migration of business rules as well as data. Separate legal companies and branches needed the right accounting boundaries; employee and contract records needed traceability; and legacy transactions had to remain searchable without becoming new invoices, purchases or stock movements. The rollout also had to respect departmental acceptance.

Our approach

We built a repeatable migration and configuration process on Odoo 17, rehearsed it on reference environments, and used it to create the production system. Four legal companies retain their own charts of accounts, while four native branches share their parent company’s books. The historical Oracle archive is read-only; new operational records follow Odoo workflows.

What we built

Preserve history without replaying it

Retained 2,803,252 legacy transaction rows in a separate read-only archive, keeping them out of new accounting, purchasing and inventory transactions.

Rebuild the organisation and HR records

Configured legal entities, branches, departments, employee file references, contracts and document registers, with access aligned to departmental roles.

Release by department

Brought HR into production first. Payroll, attendance and the other departments remain outside that first release and follow their own acceptance and activation steps.

What the implementation enables

The delivered system gives HR a live operational home while preserving access to the old system’s history. The important separation is practical: historical records support reference and audit, while the new ERP starts its own controlled transaction lifecycle.

Delivery status & scope

HR is live. Other departments are in UAT or awaiting separate activation; this case does not claim a completed group-wide rollout. Archive and structure figures were checked in the implementation reference environment.
