Hosting

Where should your ERP actually run?

Hosting is usually decided in ten minutes and regretted for years. The three options differ less in price than in who is responsible when something breaks.

Data location and who can reach it

Some businesses have contractual or sector requirements about where data resides; many simply prefer it in the UAE for latency and comfort. Either way the question to settle early is who has administrative access, because that is harder to change afterwards than the hosting itself.

Customization the environment has to allow

Vendor cloud platforms constrain what custom code can run. If your implementation depends on specific modules or integrations, that constraint decides the hosting rather than the other way round — which is why hosting should be settled during scoping, not after configuration is complete.

Backups you have actually restored

Every provider takes backups. Far fewer can tell you when a restore was last tested, and an untested backup is a hope rather than a control. Ask for the restore procedure and the last date it was exercised.

Frequently asked questions

Is on-premise cheaper?

The server is, the responsibility is not. On-premise moves patching, backups, uptime and hardware replacement onto your team. It suits organisations with existing IT capacity and specific data requirements, and suits others poorly.

Can we move later?

Yes, and migrations between hosting options are routine, but they are easier when the environment was not built around platform-specific constraints. Knowing the likely direction at the outset avoids painting yourself in.
