How to choose an ERP partner in the UAE

Every ERP partner demos well. The differences show up in month four, and they are visible in the contract long before that.

Who actually does the work

The people in the sales meeting are frequently not the people who will configure your system. Ask who is assigned, where they sit, and whether support after go-live comes from the same team. An implementation handed to a different group at go-live loses the context that made the decisions.

What happens after go-live

Go-live is the start of the relationship. Ask what an annual maintenance contract covers, what response times apply per severity and whether they are written into the agreement rather than described verbally. Ask what is explicitly not covered, because that answer is more informative than the list of what is.

Ownership and exit

If you leave, do you get your database and any custom code, and in what format? A partner confident in the relationship answers this without hesitation. The question is not adversarial — it is the difference between a supplier and a dependency.

Frequently asked questions

Does the partner need to be in the UAE?

For UAE tax, WPS payroll and e-invoicing work, local familiarity matters because these are configuration details rather than translations. On-site availability also affects how discovery, installation and training actually run.

What should a proposal contain?

A written scope with explicit exclusions, a timeline with milestones, a fixed price or a clearly bounded range, the change-request rate, and what post-go-live support costs. If any of those is missing before signature, it becomes a negotiation later.
